It’s the day before Picnic and all through the house, not a musician is stirring in Cork not even a mouse…

Even for a festival weekend, the live gig front in Cork is unusually quiet this week. The sold-out Electric Picnic is set to suck thousands of Leeside-dwellers to Stradbally for what has now become the final hurrah of the Summer months. For those sticking around Cork, Myles Manley & The Little People – who will also appear in Laois – pays his first of two visits to Cork with a Sunday show confirmed for legendary folk garrison De Barra’s down Clonakilty way as part of his ten-date Greatest Hits tour.

Also going down around town this week:

• Improvised Mondays featuring members of various Cork bands in Gulpd Café, ground floor of Triskel Arts Centre (Monday)
• A fireside session with a cracking local musician in Bradley’s of Barrack Street (Wednesday)
• Blarney synth-rockers Emerson rock Castle Street in celebration of their newly released three-track demo. This one takes place in The Roundy (Thursday)
