Capital Capers and Elsewhere Escapades (April 4th-April 10th)
Michael Gira |
Another busy bank holiday weekend approaches with seminal New York outfit Swans‘ Michael Gira paying a solo visit to the Button Factory later tonight. Could be incredible. Could be not so incredible. Gira‘s unpredictability serves as part of the charm though doesn’t it?
A collection of bands gather on Thomas Street with one of those being hotly-tipped Dublin quartet Girl Band who play The Thomas House.
Thursday will see new kids on the block Little Green Cars take advantage of their recent stint on RTE’s Other Voices with an appearance in The Workman’s Club on Wellington Quay.
The absence of venues open on Friday means there are quite a few options on the previous night with synth samurai Gretta Gunn (Pygmalion) and The Jimmy Cake (The Grand Social) both booked to create a bit of Good Friday-eve electro excitement.
Beyond The Bookshelf’s micro music festival returns again in 2012 with Duke Special, Si Schroeder and The Pale all performing in The New Theatre in Temple Bar across the three nights (5th, 6th & 7th)
Saturday has disco-loving post-punk rockers Logikparty officially unveiling the frantically fantastic Oh Cults!, their debut album now streaming over on Nialler9, in Whelan’s while Dark Room Notes have similar ideas in Twisted Pepper, launching their own eponymous record, Dark Room Notes.
Other gigs worth a visit include: the latest edition of Retro Revival Club with September Girls, Suzie’s Ashes, The #1s and more; Habitat For Humanity Night with Alarmist, Overhead, The Albatross and Crayonsmith (both Saturday); legend Patti Smith with Sam Shephard in Abbey Theatre who will present a combination of readings and music on Monday.
Last but not least Mr. Andrew WK takes his metal musings out on The Academy on Tuesday night.
