Cork Gig Guide (October 30th-November 4th)
Squarehead in The Pavilion, Saturday |
Blurgh, pffff, spluh are just a few of the many Trap Door-esque exclamations readily heard about Cork today as locals recover from the physical endurance test that was the Cork Jazz Festival. Traditionally, the following days are quite tumble-weedy as regards the live gigging front but not 2012 by jove.
The Leeside leg of the 2012 First Music Contact tour will see four of Ireland’s best and brightest creators of original music converge on Carey’s Lane for what is sure to be a another spectacular night at The Pavilion. The three permanent slots of the tour are of course filled by Squarehead, The Lost Brothers and We Cut Corners with Superblondes pencilled in for the opening berth on Friday.
For those looking for something slightly heavier on the ears then look no further than Fred Zeppelins who continue their 15th anniversary celebrations with a double header from local titans Rest and [r]Evolution of a Sun.
Other highlights for the week ahead include 1920s fantasy film Der Golem with a live soundtrack provided by 3Epkano and Iarla Ó’Lionáird within the hallowed halls of the Triskel Arts Centre’s Christchurch (Thursday), Hannah Miller-fronted folkies The Moulettes in The Pavilion (Sunday) and Leeds indie legends The Wedding Present in Cyprus Avenue (also on Sunday).
