The G-Man Album of the Year 2012 : 50-11
At the expense of my poor mushed mental melon, it’s finally complete:
January is all about lists: New year’s resolutions, dietary declarations, bucket lists and, of course, the all important, all-encompassing “best of”s. In reality, placing works of art into a static order of ranking is akin to choosing your favourite child. Sure the hyperactive little fella may drive you nuts when all you want is some peace and quiet and yes the curious little bookworm may ask too many questions of your poor tired brain at times but when the shades go down in the evening, they are all good little kids that are simply trying to find their place in the world.
After that little ramble, it’s possible I’ve lost you before we’ve even begun but all I want to say is that the below albums are the ones that made me happy this year. The order is not particularly important and will – and has already – change(d) a hundred times depending on personal mood and perspective shifts yet it’s the only logical way of tackling the whole list-lunacy. I guess the point is merely to introduce a whole world of new music to folks who may. I hope that turns out to be the case.
