Festival news: De La Soul and Sargent House for Indiependence
Indiependence make first announcement. Again…
U.K. chart toppers Bastille were confirmed for the Mitchelstown music meet-up only last week but the official first line-up has now been revealed at special simultaneous launch parties held in both Cork and Dublin. The stand out headliner is of course legendary Long Islanders De La Soul with the hip hop trailblazers confirmed alongside motormouth mixer Beardyman and Glaswegian indie trio The Fratellis. A whole host of Irish talent will be making their way down to Deer Farm too with dancefloor delinquents Le Galaxie (who are seemingly mandatory for Irish festivals these days), rock lords And So I Watch You From Afar and Cork’s very own electro ninja Toby Kaar ready to roll come the August bank holiday weekend.
A major coup for the growing festival is the addition of a Sargent House-curated stage which will see the U.S. label dare Bosnian Rainbows (i.e. Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Deatoni Parks of The Mars Volta‘s new project), This Town Needs Guns, Mylets and No Spill Blood as well as the aforementioned And So I Watch You From Afar to do their damnedest to blow the roof right off of the Big Top.
2013 will also see three indoor areas make their bow including The Bier Halle craft bar, a games area and a “let’s-get-those-acoustics-out” indoor stage. The mysterious Darkness & Light arenas are also intriguing additions with the former set to “resemble the beginning of the apocalypse where only new bands remain and the darker side of burlesque comes out at night” whilst latter caters for “shinier, happier people”.
