Cork Gig Guide (April 3rd – April 7th)
|
|
It’s a short but eventful week ahead with the faithful gig-goers’s enemy – the dreaded clash – scornfully tipping its hat to the Wednesday as White Hills (recent interview here) and The Altered Hours‘ psych-rock assault on Cyprus Avenue takes place at the same time former Pelt and Black Twig Picker Mike Gangloff returns to Plugd Records. It’s a toss of a die but whether you end up in the Caroline Street venue or everyone’s favourite record store, a great night is guaranteed. Grrr my lack of time travelling abilities appals me.
Elsewhere, there’s a fascinating double-header taking place on Castle Street as Justin Grounds & Pearse McGloughlin‘s new collaboration Idiot Songs, Christine Deady and John Synnott roll on into in The Roundy on Thursday evening before the same venue plays host to bedroom chamber popster Biggles Flys Again who officially unveils Remember Saturday to the Cork gig-going public on Friday evening with support duties fulfilled by the melodic charms of The David Nelligan Thing. For a recent Biggles… playlist curated especially by singer and songwriter Conor Deasy check out the latest edition of Listen Up.
If planning a trip out of town this week then look no further than Clon as Cian Nugent & The Cosmos descend upon in De Barra’s on Friday evening.
UPDATE: No need to go travelling as the guitar-slinger extraordinaire will also visit Cork city with a show in Gulpd Café tomorrow (4th April).
FREE GIG OF THE WEEK:
Sunday: The return of trippy dance-rockers toneControl for one night only. The Cork fivesome never officially released début record Some Words of Advice, recorded all the way back in 2007, so it’s a case of unfinished business for the ungenreable quintet. All in attendance in The Pavilion Bar will receive a free download of the long-player that never was, but now is.
For a chance to catch Rachel Zeffira in Half Moon Cork, on Monday 15th April, all you have to do is mash up a quick mail and send it to comps@thegmanworld.com making sure to include:
– your full name
– your mobile number
– the loveliest thing to happen to you (or a friend) recently
The winner will be announced on the morning of Friday, 12th April.
