This week in Cork: Katie Kim, Little Green Cars, Grave Lanterns, No Spill Blood, Stanley Brinks and more…
Consider the lull that is the first half of the gigging week on Leeside the calm before the storm as Cork gears up for the first long weekend of new year. Illuminating festivities are Cork’s very own spook-rockers Grave Lanterns who materialise from their Winter sleep to play The Pavilion on Thursday evening. Comprised of members of The Altered Hours, Une Pipe and Elastic Sleep the gruesome foursome released the ghostly ‘Creepin Up On You’ their only official recording to date last Halloween so hopefully new material is on the way in 2014. Thursday is free in with ever-ascending upstarts The Careers opening on the night.
Attention turns back to Cork Opera House on Friday evening as Choice-nominated, #1 album holding young ‘uns Little Green Cars return to Cork for their biggest show to date following a sell-out show in The Pav at Christmas. Check back later in the week for an interview with LGC’s Stevie Appleby.
For the rest of your long weekend kicks then look no further than the €15 weekend ticket for local record haven Plugd‘s ‘Sayn’t Pah! Tricks Week’nd’ three-day mini festival taking place within the white-washed walls of the Triskel TDC. Stanley Brinks & The Wave Pictures, Johnofsilence (O Emperor) and Freschard (Friday), katie kim and Morning Veils (Saturday – early 8pm show) and No Spill Blood and Lamp (Sunday) will all perform over the three days with the party continuing into the early hours with the after-show parties in Gulpd Café. If the three days are too much of a long haul for you then the stand-out night is katie kim‘s first visit to Cork in quite some time on Saturday evening.
The early show in the TDC allows gig-goers plenty of time to hightail it across Grand Parade to Carey’s Lane for The Vincent(s)‘ official launch night of double-A single ‘Fever Dreams#/’Throne Song’.
