Aftermath: Angel Olsen in Triskel Christchurch

Well that was something…
Months and months of preparation, excitement and innocent eagerness culminated in a sunny Saturday and an early evening visit to Cork’s Christchurch. Poised to be the biggest The G-Man Presents…/Low Trees show to date, tickets had been selling well and to everyone involved’s delight, the show was a sell-out with wonderful performances from both Jaye Bartell and, accompanied by Josh, Stewart and Emily, Angel Olsen. If forced by the forfeit of losing an extremely close arm-wrestling contest to pare my highlights down from the entire night into a mere handful I’d probably go with:
- The gentleman that is Jaye Bartell and his lovely, understated solo set to open the night including a duet with Angel on ‘Dance With Me’
- Full-band reworkings of Half Way Home tracks, especially ‘Acrobat’ and ‘Miranda’
- A heart-wrenching Richie Havens cover: ‘I’m A Stranger Here’
- Unexpected but highly entertaining chit-chat with the Cork crowd. Numb bums, grave-digging and local watering hole Callanan’s were some of the surprise topics touched throughout the evening.
A huge thank you again to all involved. Let’s do it all again soon.
