Weekly Cork Gig Guide: 24th-30th June 2014

Midlake (Tuesday)
The Pixies (Monday 30th)

This week in Cork: Robert Plant, Pixies, Midlake, The Shaker Hymn, Tinariwen, Paddy Hanna and more..

From big boomers in the tent to itty bitty intimate café sessions, the next 7 days in Cork is plentiful and talent packed so excuse me if I race through this week’s preview. There’s not much chatter to natter about when it comes to those taking to the Marquee with the big names taking care of themselves: Elbow (Tuesday), a revitalised Robert Plant (Wednesday), and a Kim Deal-less Pixies (Monday 30th) all come to Cork between now and Monday next.

Feeling spoiled for choice yet? Well there’s also sand-rock sensations Tinariwen who take to the Opera House on Saturday evening, rejigged and refocused Texan sixsome Midlake in Cyprus Avenue later tonight, the wonderfully subtle sounds of Idiot Songs in Gulpd on Wednesday, revamped Bad Pets Hags in The Pavilion Bar Thursday evening and a whole weekend of noise in Cork Community Print Shop for their very first Summer weekender featuring Hands Up Who Wants To Die, Black Spring, Magneto and more. Details for the latter here. Or else there’s the World Cup…
