Cork Gig Guide: 19th-25th April 2016
Glenn Jones in Sirius (Sunday) |
This week in Cork: Glenn Jones, The Shaker Hymn, Onra, Rusangano Family, Meschiya Lake and more…
Cork simply doesn’t do quiet weekends on the live music front these days with April’s hot streak of great shows continuing unashamedly unabated. The madness really starts to get going on Friday as Cork indie quartet The Shaker Hymn official unveil second record, Do You Think You’re Clever, to their hometown fans with a special show lined up for Coughlan’s. To hear more about the follow up to Rascal’s Antique and listen to some live renditions of the new tracks, listen back to The Shaker Hymn’s Cork Music Show appearance in March using this link. For those who fancy their folk or big band jazz, Anderson (Cyprus Avenue) and Meschiya Lake & The Little Big Horns (The Crane Lane Theatre) provide the perfect alternative on that very same evening. And that’s only the first night of the weekend!
Paris-based producer Onra is in charge of heating up the Triskel TDC on Saturday night, an evening which sees two excellent out-of-town shows with men of the moment Rusangano Family wrapping up their Irish tour out west in De Barra’s whilst force of nature fiddler Caoimhín Ó’Raghallaigh plays Cobh’s picture perfect Sirius Arts Centre. For those set on buying a day-ticket for the train to Cobh maybe stay around an extra night as subtle guitar genius Glenn Jones plays an early evening show in the same venue that very day.
Also going down around town this week:
- Steven Sharpe & The Broke Straight Boys in The Crane Lane Theatre (Wednesday)
- Jack O’Rourke in Coughlan’s (Thursday)
- Robert Sarazin Blake in Pine Lodge (Friday)
WIN TICKETS:
De Barra’s have made a pair of tickets to Rusangano Family in Clonakilty on Saturday available. Email your name/number with a subject of RF4EVA to comps@thegmanworld.com to enter.
