Masters of Tradition 2022 programme unveiled
Masters of Tradition returns at the turn of the month with the West Cork traditional music festival revealing a special 20th anniversary programme. Artistic Director Martin Hayes, fresh from a number of appearances at Fleadh Cheoil 2022 in Mullingar, describes the unique approach taken by the Bantry-based festival:
“Inside traditional music is a significant mastery. This is something you might not notice at a big outdoor event or in a corner of a noisy bar. In this environment, it is possible to bring people inside a very intimate and detailed experience of the music. This was an experience I had growing up myself and I want to share that with people.”
Running from 24th until 28th August, the festival’s opening concert will see pianist Cormac McCarthy, accordion player Brian Donnellan, dancer Stephanie Keane and sean-nós singer Saileog Ní Cheannabháin join Hayes at the Maritime Hotel. Additional concerts include performances from piper Kathryn Tickell, fiddlers Andrea Palandri and Sorcha Costello, guitarist Steve Cooney and dancer Caitlín Nic Gabhann and many more. Afternoon chats or cainteanna will also be dotted throughout the weekend.
