Live at the Marquee Special

So in 9 days time Corks now annual Summer event, the Live at the Marquee shows kicks off with The Prodigy on the Thursday, the 18th June.

Known for it’s odd blend of pop/rock/dance acts the manic depressive nature of this fest goes straight for the jugular as Liam Howlett and the boys warm the tent up for Shayne Ward on the Friday with Waterford native and apparent legend Gilbert O’Sullivan following on the Saturday.

Hmmmmmm

At this stage Blondie, Kasabian and The Priests have already fallen by the wayside for whatever reason(s).

Tracy Chapman arrives on the Monday (22nd June) to add some class and, being one of the more moderately priced gigs I would recommend the Cleveland, Ohio songsmith.

Supergroup Chickenfoot are up next on the Tuesday and this one could actually be the joker in the deck. Comprised of vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen and Montrose), bassist Michael “Mikey” Anthony (also ex-Van Halen), guitarist supremo Joe Satriani and drummer Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) these boys really can play their instruments and. although I have not yet heard their newly released record, expect some serious guitar noodling and solo work.

Flo Rida is up on the Wednesday. Knowing nothing about rap I will keep my mouth shut for a number of the next artists.

Simple Minds bring the 80’s back to the fore on the Thursday with a bang. Could be good but think I gonna stay away myself.

The newly unashamedly self-appointed Irish talking heads Bell XI take up the Friday, 26th June spot. Still they are good live and would well be worth e35.

Skimming over the rest I am not too excited but check out * for my own recommendations:
