Festival: Levis’ Secret Song for Valentine’s

Ballydehob’s finest Cornerhouse invites us to a weekend of Secret Song

One of Ireland’s hidden little treasures is revealed to the world across Valentine’s weekend. Secret Song, an annual music festival with an unannounced line-up, returns to Levis’ of Ballydehob across 13th and 14th February. Although beloved to those of us hanging around Cork for a long time, Joe and Caroline’s Cornerhouse of hope sprang to international attention a few years ago with a lovely little spotlight from The Guardian.

Having missed 2020, the West Cork (virtual) gathering is going ahead this year thanks to some much needed financial assistance from The Department of Culture and Culture Ireland. Bringing together household names and local talent, ten artists will perform across two nights. Tickets are priced at €15 per night or €25 for a weekend bundle. A member of the Live Venue Collective (LVC), Levis’ describe the weekend like so:

Secret Song is exactly as it is titled – a Secret. On the day, everyone moves from room to room, to the back garden, from the Parlour, to the ‘Outback’ without knowing who is playing. We’ve even had ‘a gig’ in a cupboard. People take a leap of faith. Every year the festival sells. out. Every year something extraordinary is created.

Tickets for this year’s Secret Song are available now from Bandcamp. For more from Levis’ Cornerhouse, visit leviscornerhouse.com.

Block Heater

2021 sees Levis’ partner with Calgary Folk Festival, a not-for-profit showcase for independent talent operating since 1980. The Canadian partners will themselves be busy hosting their own Block Heater Winter festival, from Tuesday, 16th February.
