Cork Gig Guide – August Preview
Live gigs in Cork this month include The Bonk, Jack O’Rourke and John Blek.
Cork venues and concert halls tentatively dip their feet into the gigging waters this month with most still closed due to the ongoing pandemic. It is encouraging to see great gig spots like The Kino take a slow and safe approach, with significantly reduced capacity applied for the current phase of openings.
The Bonk, John Blek & Jack O’Rourke
Come what may, the re-emergence of cabaret-style venue/café The Kino is extremely positive news for Cork gig goers. Based on Washington Street, The Kino management team have reduced from 200 down to 40 fully seated. All tables are at least 2 metres apart from each other. Kino highlights in the coming weeks include two shows from The Bonk. Philip Christie’s madcap collective performed on new online music show Guerrilla Live in July and released new EP Songs For The Mean Time Vol. 1 that same month. Hard to believe it’s over four years since The Bonk played the low trees stage at Quarter Block Party. For a recap, click here.
Another to play two dates at The Kino is folk songwriter John Blek who released fifth studio solo album The Embers in February. The former John Blek & The Rats frontman plays The Kino on the 29th August. Triskel Christchurch also reopened its doors with Cork pianist Jack O’Rourke taking to the altar for an evening show on Friday 14th August.
Update: MusicZone added details of an Irish exclusive Biffy Clyro virtual show. Details here.
