John Blek & The Rats’ head honcho unveiled his second solo album at the tail end of September.Cork fans can catch their compatriot play songs from ‘Cut The Light’ in the flesh with a trio of intimate shows spread around the county in late November and early December. Inspired and influenced by Bert Jansch and Fairport Convention, Blek’s recent release confirms his status as one of the leading players in Ireland’s contemporary folk scene.*

Champions of improv. and long-running independent label Edition of Contemporary Music – otherwise known as ECM – take to the Triskel Christchurch for a three-day weekend starting with violoncellist Anja Lechner and pianist François Couturier on Friday evening. For those looking for an excuse to hit the road, Fight Like Apes play their last ever Cork show in Leap on Friday evening and David Kitt plays the same spot – Connolly’s – the very next evening so could be worth a weekend in West Cork.
