Cork Gig Guide: 11th-17th October
Richmond Fontaine (Friday) |
This week in Cork: windings, Richmond Fontaine, Michael Kiwanuka & more…
*Officially, this will be the last chance to hear Richmond Fontaine mould music around Willy Vlautin’s tales of racetrack woe and blue-collar blues with the Portland band announcing that the current European tour will be their last as a band following 22 years of releasing records together. Squint and you might even recognise David Murphy (of Cork’s own John Blek & The Rats) playing pedal-steel in the background.
windings unveil new record Be Honest and Fear Not with a couple of Cork dates at the weekend. For more on the new record and Irish tour click here. Stay posted for an interview with windings frontman, Steve Ryan, later in the week.
Elsewhere, Michael Kiwanuka plays another sold out Cyprus Avenue show (Thursday); a couple of new Cork albums arrive courtesy of Clare Sands (Coughlan’s, Thursday) and Jack O’Rourke (Everyman, Saturday); electro-pheric Californian Ensemble Economique takes to the Triskel Project Space (Saturday); and the Satchmo Sessions continue upstairs in Quay Co-Op with Christine Daisy Deady this month’s special guest.
