This week in Cork: Cian Nugent, Oh Pep! and more…
Dublin guitarist Cian Nugent comes to Cobh this weekend in a date rescheduled from earlier in the year. Dowry – the solo project of composer Éna Brennan – is also on the Saturday bill for what should be another picturesque date at Sirius Arts Centre. UPDATE! This show has moved. Cian Nugent and Éna Brennan will now play Triskel TDC having been moved from Sirius Arts Centre (Cobh).
Staying away from the city centre for the moment, Australian duo Oh Pep! play a couple of west Cork dates with De Barra’s (Wednesday) and Levis’ providing the locations for the Melbourne twosome who are currently touring new record Stadium Cake extensively in Europe before heading across the States in June. International acts coming to County Cork and not the city of Cork is starting to become a regular occurrence and a great excuse for a road-trip.
Jazz fans take note of the happenings in Triskel as the Kevin Brady Trio launch new record Ensam with the aid of U.K. vocalist Norma Winstone on Thursday. Film fans take note of the programme for Deep Focus – Women in Film, a weekend festival with various screenings in Triskel Christchurch across the weekend including Little Girl Blue, the Janis Joplin biopic on Sunday afternoon. Visit http://triskelartscentre.ie/deep-focus-festival for the full details.
