Cork Gig Guide: 9th-15th February 2016
August Wells |
This week in Cork: August Wells, Sophie Cooper and more…
Since August Wells last played Cork – a G-Man presents show in Sept’ 2015 – Ken Griffin and John Rauchenberger have gone on to play multi-thousand capacity venues opening for Glen Hansard State-side. A return to the intimacy of Coughlan’s beckons on Friday evening with a trip to Myrtleville planned for the Saturday for those who fancy a little pre-gig trip to the beach. As in September, the wonderful tunes of Cork’s own Damsel will be heard as support for the latter show as well as performing at the first edition in the new Mind Your Head series in Urban Remains.
West Yorkshire sound-sculptor Sophie Cooper takes her four-date Irish tour to Gulpd Café on Sunday evening. Those who like their songs sliced up with drone and psych should pop their heads into Plugd Records’ sister cafe.
Also going down around town this week:
- The Whileaways in Coughlan’s (Thursday)
- Stomptown Brass Band in Cyprus Avenue (Friday)
