Cork Gig Guide: 15th-21st December 2015
This week in Cork: Lisa O’Neill, Peter Broderick, The Altered Hours, Glen Hansard, Ash, Elastic Sleep and more.
The weather may be wild, Christmas is just around the corner and the live music trail in Cork approaches its apex with a festive-filled array of concerts and gigs taking place in the last week before the jolly guy goes rootin’ in your chimney. Pick of the list is the Live At St. Luke’s session on the Saturday featuring Lisa O’Neill, Peter Broderick and Cork’s own Damsel. I spoke with the two latter ahead of the concert. See here for the full scoop.
Glen Hansard returns to Cork – Frames-less – for a couple of concerts that I suppose counts as intimate these days for the Oscar winner. See the star of Once play songs from Grammy-nominated album Didn’t He Ramble in Everyman Palace Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday.
With another new track from their highly anticipated debut record, In Heat Not Sorry, premiering online last week, The Altered Hours go west for a very first appearance in the newly reopened, and very much welcomed back, Connolly’s of Leap on Saturday, a day after Donal Dineen and Talos play the very same spot.
To add to that there’s A Very Hagsy Christmas celebration in Cork Community Print Shop, need-no-introduction northerners Ash in Cyprus Avenue (both Friday), the wrap this year up party-style Feel Good Lost Xmas Party with Young Wonder, Daithí and Talos in Cyprus Avenue, Elastic Sleep, Naoise Roo and Barchester Chronicles in Triskel TDC (both Saturday) and Brian Deady‘s album launch in St. Luke’s Church on Monday. I’ll even be chatting with on air with The Co-Present live in The Roundy from 5pm, Saturday.
LATE ADDITION:
Plugd Xmas Party in Gulpd with Woven Skull, Laura Hyland & Eimear Reidy, and Roslyn Steer on Sunday evening!
