This week in Cork: Mastodon, Jennifer Evans, The Waterboys, The Great Balloon Race, I Draw Slow and more.
With the “big” names all headed towards the tent on the tarmac (Live at the Marquee listings here), it could be easy to miss the fact that Atlanta, Georgia prog-metallers Mastodon motor into Cork this weekend for a Saturday set in The Savoy. Tracks from 2014’s Once More ‘Round the Sun should appear in abundance.
Out east, it’s the slightly smaller – but beautiful – setting of Sirius Arts Centre that plays centre-piece as Jennifer Evans plays possibly her first ever headline Cork set down in Cobh. Other gigs to keep an eye on include hip-hop in abundance with This Side Up and Spekulativ Fiction in Fred Zeppelin’s; death metal with Vircolac and Zhora in Cork Community Print Shop (both Friday); alt-country crooners I Draw Slow in Coughlan’s (Saturday) and The Waterboys Live at the Marquee (Sunday).
