As a heterosexual, white male with loving parents backed up by a wonderful family and group of friends, I faced no official barriers or roadblocks on the road to finding and accepting my own identity as a child/teenager/young adult/man – and it’s still contained its fair share of struggle and strife. Be it at home, in the workplace or at social gatherings, one of the most valuable lessons I have learned on my own personal journey is never underestimate the importance of feeling welcome. Friday 22nd May provides Irish citizens with a chance to officially say not only do we accept all different manner of relationships as equal, but we welcome them. Vote “Yes”.
