This week in Cork: God Is An Astronaut, The Telescopes, Gnod, Sunday School Sessions and more..

Producer Ian McNulty’s country collective Sunday School Sessions visit Coughlan’s on Thursday evening marking the alt-folk/americana group’s first visit down south as one. Featuring a whole host of heavenly voices – including Hidden Highway‘s Carol Anne McGowan and Tim V. Smyth – the group promise “old style country and Americana lovingly played and sung for your listening pleasure”. Consider me sold.

Otherwise film fans still have a whole week of shorts, documentaries and features to keep them occupied as Cork Film Festival rumbles. Pay special attention to music-related events such as Resonant Frequencies featuring Seti The First & Brian Kelly in Triskel Christchurch (Friday), Gnodorowsky (i.e. space-noise dudes Gnod soundtrack Alejandro Jodorowosky’s Dune) in Triskel Christchurch and youth culture blog Coltt‘s special screening of Bande Á Part The Black Mariah (both Saturday). Also remember the festival club takes place every evening in Gulpd Cafe.

Elsewhere, instrumental titans God Is An Astronaut return to Cyprus Avenue on Friday for a night of visually striking post-rock euphoria before 80’s dream-drone stalwarts The Telescopes are joined by Cork grave-pop group The Vincent(s) in Crane Lane Theatre on Saturday night.
