Weekly Cork Gig Guide: 30th September – 7th October
The Necks – Triskel Christchuch |
This week in Cork: The Necks, Cork Folk Festival, The Young Folk, Trash Culture Revue and more..
Be it garbed as ghoul or ghost, lederhosen-clad for extreme drinking or more sophisticatedly styled in black tie or cocktail dress, October is the month for folks who like to play dress up. From Halloween and Oktoberfest to the Cork Jazz festival itself, the next 31 days define a den for the decadent.
For those eager to get their jazz hands on early, cult Oz legends The Necks serve up a little pre-Jazz weekend treat when they visit Triskel Christchurch on the 2nd, the perfect taster of what’s to come at the end of the month.
Serenading the other end of the spectrum will be the many faces flitting about Cork for the 2014 Cork Folk Festival. Taking place from 2nd-5th, highlights include legendary local Jimmy Crowley’s stop-off at l’Attitude for the official opening (1st), rowdy bluegrass revellers We Banjo 3 with Buille in The Oliver Plunkett (3rd), Scottish songsmith Dick Gaughan in The Oliver Plunkett and Mozaik with Andy Irvine & Donal Lunny in Cork School of Music (both on the 4th), not to mention a number of talks and workshops being held across the four days. See www.corkfolkfestival.com for the full line-up.*
Also: DIY arts and culture spectacular Trash Culture Revue takes place across several locations from 2nd-5th.
