The June bank holiday weekend begins early this year with Thrift Store Cowgirl Amanda Shires in Cyprus Avenue on Tuesday evening with the Texan songwriter and violin player set to play tracks from her ever-growing solo back catalogue, focusing mostly on 2013’s Down Fell The Doves. And the gigging week doesn’t break for a breath for a moment from there. Kentucky starlet Joan Shelley returns to Cork on Wednesday evening with an intimate show planned for Triskel-based cafe Gulpd. Stay tuned for an upcoming podcast on the blog featuring an interview with Shelley herself.

Joined by fellow travelling troubadour Casey Black, chart-topping Blarney songsmith Mick Flannery plays a double date in The Pavilion on Thursday and Friday evening with both most likely sold out by the time of the shows.

From midweek folk to pulsating long weekend electronica, Portland twosome Patricia Hall and Ian Hicks aka Soft Metals are the latest international artists to play Triskel TDC courtesy of Plugd Records. Local soundwave samurai Carried By Waves opens proceedings while on Saturday evening Cork indie rockers Neon Atlas are in Cyprus Avenue. Capital disco-rockers Le Galaxie see out the weekend fulfilling Bandon Music Festival closing duties on Sunday evening.

And those looking for a break on Monday best to look away now as author and Richmond Fontaine frontman Willy Vlautin features in Cyprus Avenue as part of The Delines (Vlautin’s latest songwriting vehicle, voiced by Amy Boone)’ Irish tour. For those looking for something a little more low-key, see the official launch for I’m Awake, I’m Alive, a graphic novel titled after local heroes The Altered Hours which opens its pages in The Pavilion that same evening.
