Weekly Cork Gig Guide: 1st-7th April 2014
Diane Cluck (Saturday, TDC) |
This week in Cork: Diane Cluck, Girls Names, Elastic Sleep and more..
Having grown as a creator in her own right as part of an East Village NYC collective that could boast CocoRosie, Kimya Dawson, Adam Green and Jeffrey Lewis amongst its ranks, Virginia-basd songwriter Diane Cluck is back on the road again to promote Bone Set, Cluck’s first official release in years. Also featuring converted Corkonian Rory Francis O’Brien and Belfast folkie Catherine Hatt on the bill, Saturday evening in Triskel TDC is shaping up to be something special. Check back later in the week for an interview with Diane Cluck ahead of the big night.
Although choc-a-block with great gigs, last weekend was a bit of a wash-out due to a chronic case of cracked cloud syndrome but please don’t let that deter you this week with so much going on about Cork beginning with a single launch on Douglas Street on Thursday evening. Anna Mitchell returns to spiritual home Coughlan’s to officially launch her début single ‘Let’s Run Away’ featuring Wexford songwriter The Man Whom on support duties. Anna guested on The Cork Music Show on Sunday afternoon so we should have a podcast of our visit to the CCCR100.5FM studios soon.
The weekend goes a little nuts then with silly amounts of options stuffed into a handful of venues across Leeside. Slow Motion Heroes dust off the cobwebs on Friday with their first live outing in over a year taking them to Bradley’s of Barrack Street whilst eclectic supergroup D.F.F. make their Cork bow within the hallowed halls of Christchurch that same night before Belfast indie rockers and recently Choice Music Prize-nominated Girls Names cross pop swords with Cork’s very own Elastic Sleep for a Saturday night riff-session in The Pavilion.
