This week in Cork: John Grant, O Emperor, John Blek And The Rats, Rachel Sermanni and more…
All roads point to Emmet Place this weekend as Cork Opera House braces herself for a busy weekend. First up is former cult Czars frontman-turned successful international solo artist John Grant who returns to Cork on Thursday with a serious venue upgrade following his sold out appearance in Cyprus Avenue last Summer.
Then it’s over to Waterford-fivesome O Emperor following their recent Choice Music Prize nomination for the excellent Vitreous, the Cork-based group’s second nomination in total who will be joined on Friday evening by the ever-ascending The Altered Hours, completing a bill of two of the most exciting bands in Cork for their biggest show to date.
Other big shows going down this week include John Blek & The Rats who awaken from their Winter slumber for a show in The Pavilion of Carey’s Lane, part of a Saturday night double bill on Carey’s Lane which sees the americana-lovin’ sextet followed by a Shit Robot DJ set.
Cork Community Print Shop provide a nice wind-down to the weekend with the launch of their SecondSundays series which sees Morning Veils and Laurie Shaw join together for a Sunday matinee.
The early week highlight should delight folk-lovers as Rachel Sermanni continues her Irish tour with a date in Coughlan’s on Tuesday evening.
Also going down around town this week:
- Dozens of music and non-music related events as part of the 2014 Cork French Film Festival (All week)
- Electronic Kilkennyan (not a word) Replete in The Pavilion Bar (Thursday)
