Festival: Coughlan’s of Douglas Street

The little room with a massive heart announces big names for anniversary bash…
Coughlan’s of Cork has revealed the line-up to the upcoming musical jamboree that, similar to the venue’s opening weekend last year, will take place over four days in September. A stand out on the Douglas Street spot’s listings is Meath minstrel Lisa Hannigan. More acquainted these days with thousand-seater venues than intimate rooms, tickets for the Mercury Music Prize-nominated musician (for 2009’s solo début release Sea Sew) are sure to disappear in a heartbeat for what is quite a coup for the festival organisers.
Fellow chart-stormers Wallis Bird and Cathy Davey will join Hannigan, The Man Whom, Elly O’Keefe and a whole host of Cork talent (John Blek & The Rats, Fred, The Hard Ground, Anna Mitchell, Lisa Canny & Conor O Sullivan and O Emperor – the latter via Waterford) for the venue’s annual shindig. Personally, the thoughts of catching the incredible Iarla Ó Lionáird & Steve Cooney play in a sitting room-esque atmosphere is mouth-watering enough all by its lonesome
With two more acts yet to be confirmed, the full line-up as we go to print/post is:
