Festival news: Forbidden Fruit 2013

If an apple a day keeps the doctor away imagine the benefits of gorging on this juicy selection over the course of two days …
Forbidden Fruit returns to the idyllic Kilmainham Hospital grounds this weekend with eyes peeled and breath baited as to how the urban festival will fare in such carnivorous times. Pared down to a more manageable two days (as opposed to three last year), the Kilmainham knees-up surprised everyone with the announcement that British chart-rockers Kasabian and Primal Scream would headline this year’s proceedings. With the introduction of Longitude and Iveagh Gardens to the early-Summer outdoor events card, it is understandable that the promoters had to adapt and react in some fashion but only time will tell whether the less alternative additions will prove to be a hindrance to sales or a saving grace.
If neither tickle your fancy (true Bobby Gillespie and his Scream-mates can be hit and miss but when they click they soar), then fear not as James Blake, Four Tet, Daughter, Simian Mobile Disco and Neon Neon should provide enough beeps, beats and blips to satisfy those June bank holiday indie cravings. Not to mention the well-oiled and elegantly refined pop sounds of Chic, the perfect festival machine. To read a G-Man interview with Nile Rodgers from last year simply click here.
If I had to pick one potential personal highlight from each day I would opt for both Health (Saturday) and Austra (Sunday). Full of energy and consistently great live. Trust me!
