Amiina go back to School

Amiina to spread gamelan joy on Leeside…

As hinted at ever so subtly earlier in the month (see bottom of page here), the otherworldly chimes of Amiina will return to Cork this Summer with a certain twist to their visit. See official word below from Cork Opera House:

In a truly unique music event The Opera House will work with Cork Educate Together pupils from 6th class, UCC School of Music, UCC Gamelan Orchestra, amiina and a host of facilitators in the city to collaboratively produce and present Gamiina (June 24).The students from the Cork Educate together will be taken through the principals of the Gamelan Orchestra with the object of the project being their interpretation of amiina’s music through the Gamelan – hence the title for the event, as chosen by the students themselves. Amiina will come for a period in June to work with the children and compose some new compositions on the Gamelan themselves. For this special event the audiences will be treated to performances from amiina and the students with some brand new compositions created in Cork for this sonic summer treat.
