Capital Capers : Top 10 Dublin gigs for February
Ten post-Winter blues remedies at the ready…
This easily could have been a Top 20 but alas it’s called the “Top 10 Dublin gigs for February” post. Rules be rules.

Where?: The Workman’s Club
How much?: €10
Why?: Cloud Castle Lake, Spilly Walker, Girl Band, Simon Bird, Ginola, Turning Down Sex, Lemonada, Rhino Magic, Cait and Orlando, Arrow-Shower and Kathi Burke. That’s less than a euro per band not including the compilation cd included in the price. Visit quarterinchcollective.wordpress.com for further details

When?: 3rd & 4th February
Where?: St. Stephen’s Church – The Pepper Canister

Why?: Well the third is sold out so tie up those skates and get a move-on. A gig in a church is always a little special. Expect nothing less from Martha on both nights.
When?: Tuesday, 5th February (solo), Thursday 7th February (Desaparecidos)
Where?: National Concert Hall/Button Factory
How much?: €26/€20
Why?: For those who have dreamt of a Conor Oberst-shaped heaven here he is, twice in a week.

Why?: New record I Hold The Wolf receives the official release treatment with help from Wizards of Firetop Mountain, Ilenkus & Guilty Optics

How much?: €19.50
Why?: Well if a golden ticket for this one is waved in front of you, grab the hand and all as it’s been sold out for quite some time.
When?: Thursday, 14th February
Where?: Olympia Theatre
How much?: €25/€27.50
Why?: Strolling in at #24 on this year’s Albums of the Year list, Calexico’s 9th studio album Algiers has been otherwise moving about more sub-radar climes. Always a pleasure to witness the Tucson sixsome in a live setting.
When?: Thursday, 21st February
Where?: The Academy
How much?: €25
Why?: Oh he of the golden syrupy vocal chords should never be missed, especially now his visits to this side of the Atlantic – well at least to this green isle – are becoming a little less frequent.
When?: Saturday, 23rd February
Where?: Whelan’s
How much?: €8
Why?: It’s been two years since awesome instrumental foursome Enemies headlined a Dublin show of their own. With the arrival of the follow-up to 2010’s We’ve Been Talking imminent and pals Croupier and Spies along for the ride, this should be a heck of a party.
When?: Sunday, 24th February
Where?: Whelan’s
How much?: €13.50
Why?: Stoner folk rock is a lazy description of Dave Heumann’s Baltimore-based beast. Incredible is even lazier…but apt.
