Cork Gig Guide: 24th December-6th January
Andy Stott – Triskel TDC, Saturday |
Modern Love producers and folky fun goodness. There may not be much live music happening over Christmas but there’s still quite a healthy array of talent on offer…
…and it’s off to Cyprus Avenue on the 26th for John Blek & The Rats who are the perfect group of rambunctious rebels to get a party popping on Stephen’s Day. For those looking to keep it a little more intimate then it’s short trip to the former Lobby bar as master craftsman Ger Wolfe is charged with enthralling all in attendance at L’Attitude 51.
Limerick lads Windings scratch that infinite itch to get back on the road on the following night as they visit The Slate‘s roof-garden on a nippy December evening.
Saturday 29th caters for all tastes as dance-pop deviants Le Galaxie return to The Pavilion, local legends The Franks revisit nineties classic Trains, Boats and Planes in The Savoy, 2012 being the 20th anniversary of the group’s debut record while Manc producer Andy Stott spins some discs on Tobin Street in Triskel Art Centre’s TDC.
New Year’s Eve belongs to Mick Flannery who completes a year that has seen the Blarney balladeer play major festivals on the continent and knock that old hag Madge off the top of the charts to claim his first number one album with a date in Cork Opera House.
And that’s me out of here for a week or two. Talk to y’all in the new year.
*Film fans see Triskel Arts Centre‘s listings for the week over on the official website here.
