Cork Gig Guide (November 19th-November 25th)
It’s all happening on Half Moon Street this week as Cork Opera House‘s (baby) sister venue lines up an impressive double header.German composer and pianist Nils Frahm is first to arrive with a Thursday night date before Swedish multi-instrumentalist Jens Lekman takes his European tour of I Know What Love Isn’t – his first studio album in five years – to Cork’s Half Moon Theatre.
Early week highlights are provided by Cork’s favourite indie poppers When Good Pets Go Bad (Monday in The Crane Lane), London’s Darren Foreman whose beat-boxing Beardyman alter-ego visits The Pav (Wednesday) and UK hardcore hombres Art of Drowning Water in Fred’s (Thursday).
The weekend belongs to the locals with the second ever Cork Rocks… event this time taking place within the theatrical confines of MacCurtain Street’s Everyman Palace (Friday) whilst rock behemoths Hope Is Noise lead a fine line-up on Carey’s Lane which includes the return of Dublin’s garage pop queens September Girls before they hit the hibernation trail in order to record a new album. Competing with that show will be O Emperor who are back with a new single and ready to roll again following a self-enforced hiatus. The latter takes place in Cyprus Avenue, also on Saturday night.
