It’s all about the gee-tars this weekend.
Two titans of incendiary instrumental rock string up and tune in for what is set to be a colossal few days for fans of the axe. Ten Past Seven bring their little black box of tricks to the Triskel and Plugd Records on Friday (see here for more details) and the peerless Redneck Manifesto take a trip down west for the 2012 Clonakilty International Guitar Festival. The Redneck’s are a beast spotted rarely in public these days so if there is any chance of making it to De Barra’s on Saturday take it. Trust me.
There is so much taking place in west Cork from Thursday to Sunday that it is difficult to narrow down the highlights but if I had to pick five other “musts” they would be as follows:
- Fri 21st: Windings (De Barra’s – 11pm)
- Sat 22nd: Steve Cooney, Iarla Ó’Lionáird and Joe Csibi (De Barra’s – 7.30pm)
- Sun 23rd: John Blek & The Rats (Bernie’s – 5.30pm)
- Sun 23rd: Band of Clouds (De Barra’s – 3pm)
- Sun 23rd: House of Cosy Cushions (De Barra’s – 6.30pm)
Obviously the Clonakilty celebrations dominate the majority of the coming days highlights but The Cast of Cheers‘ Cork leg of their Irish tour should be a crack. That takes place in The Pavilion on Sunday night so prepare the panadol for work on Monday morning…
