Competition : Win tickets to Alarm Will Sound in Cork
Alarm Will Sound |
It’s not too often the chance to catch a twenty-piece, New York-based classical colossus live in Cork but said opportunity not only presents itself on June 6th but is served on a Cork Opera House platter Wednesday week in the form of Alarm Will Sound.
Influential – and controversial – American composer John Cage’s 1970 magnum opus Song Books is set to be brought to life by a talented group of musicians who are as comfortable revelling in the music of Aphex Twin as they are canoodling with compositions from Steve Reich. Having tackled concept albums as vast and diverse as Van Gogh (based on letters Vincent wrote to his brother Theo) and a/rhythmia (based on “the proper role of pulse in contemporary music”), “the future of classical music” (according to The New York Times) apparently lies with Alan Pierson and his cohorts.
