Record Store Day: Arcade Fire, Mastodon, Feist and more
The latest plans for a limited edition Record Store Day 2012 release have been announced with Arcade Fire set to release a 12″ vinyl pressing containing remixes of ‘Sprawl II’ and ‘Ready to Start’, the latter previously only available as a bonus track on a limited edition copy of The Suburbs.
An unlikely combination is the double A-side 7″ from Mastodon and Feist. The prog-metal giants will cover Leslie Feist’s ‘Commotion’ while the indie princess supplies a take on covers Mastodon‘s ‘Black Tongue’.* My name will be going down on a copy of one of those that’s for sure.
Record Store Day brings artists and “real, live, physical, indie record stores” together. The limited edition releases are not available in publicly traded, corporate “music” stores so RSD is a way of enticing people back into the original record shops.
Other releases include 7″s from :
Beach House (‘Lazuli B/W Equal Mind’)
The Civil Wars (‘Billie Jean/Sour Times’ (both live))
Bowerbirds (‘In the Yard/Always an Ear To Bend’)
Bruce Springsteen (‘Rocky Ground/The Promise’)
Eddie Vedder (‘Love Boat Captain/Wishlist’).
– Record Store Day takes place on Saturday, 21st April in selected independent record stores worldwide
