Magnetic Fields for Ireland
The Magnetic Fields, Stephen Merritt’s beautiful musical machine, will make two appearances in Ireland in 2012 with dates confirmed for both Dublin and Cork.
A new album arrives in March in the form of Love at the Bottom of the Sea so expect to hear lots from that as well as plenty from Merritt’s vast back catalogue.
If you are new to The Magnetic Fields then I recommend 2004’s heartstring-snapping I.
The announcement for COH follows swiftly after Bonnie “Prince” Billy confirmed he will play the venue on February 1st. Performances in the past six months from Ryan Adams, Amiina, Efterklang (in the Savoy but booked by COH), Sam Amidon (in the Half-Moon) with A Winged Victory For The Sullen coming in January shows a new, and very welcome, focus on contemporary music has quickly fallen into place.
– The Magnetic Fields play the Olympia in Dublin on April 28th and the Opera House in Cork on April 29th.
– Tickets are priced between €25 and €30 and are available from the respective box offices.
