New album from Captain A
Letterkenny’s Captain A began recording New Country, the band’s seventh album, back in December 2009 and it has been quite a journey for the quartet since but the album now finally has an official release.
Broken down cars called Mick; a software update that deleted a near-finished record that had to be recorded again; support slots for comedian Kevin McAleer; and plenty hot cups of a red-coloured liquid Eileen (recently-drafted Captain A vocalist and singer with Dublin band The Prairie Dawgs) assured the rest of Captain A was definitely tea all make up the story that was the recording of New Country.
Extremely lo-fi, the outstanding quality on the recordings is the blend of Eoghan Holland’s deep baritone and Eileen Twomey’s haunting, Rachel Goswell (Mojave 3)-esque vocal, both sitting nicely on top of subtle acoustics and organs, which is simply a delight to listen to over and over.
Gigs are lined up next week for Citog in The Cellar Bar in Galway (November 11th) and The Cobblestone in Dublin (November 12th).
