The Gloaming
I had some lovely scones in the Cork Opera House yesterday for their Autumn/Winter programme launch (click here for more details). I might have to pop in for even more lovely stuff tomorrow night (August 26th) when the silly talented Martin Hayes is joined by his ridiculously talented friends (Thomas Bartlett, Dennis Cahill,Iarla Ó Lionaird and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh) on Friday August 26th.
For anyone who prefers their music served live (not just trad) and definitely if they like playing music (Martin Hayes and Denis Cahill together are special so what the five of them are going to come up with is beyong me) they should try get themselves in for this one.
The official bio runs a little like this :
The Gloaming is a collective of remarkable individual talents who share a musical aesthetic. The five came together to explore new music at Grouse Lodge Studios is West Meath in early 2011. At once they made music that is at once both ancient and utterly new. New York pianist Bartlett, sean-nos singer Ó Lionaird, Chicago guitarist Cahill, fiddler and hardanger innovator Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh and fiddle master Hayes is a group of virtuoso musicians yet it is a band with a sound all of its own. Sparse and beautiful. Authentic and tune-filled. And capable of raucous power.
The quintet made their live bow at the National Concert Hall just five days ago. Check out a review from the Irish Times here if you would like to see what lies in store.
Tickets are priced at €26 and available from the Cork Opera House box office or their official site which you can link to below.
