Bank Holiday Weekend : What To Do
The bank holiday weekend approaches rapidly (if not quickly enough for me, I mean some) but what will you be up to from July 29th to August 1st? Staying in? Surely not! If you are yet to make your mind up check out the below for exciting events happening near you.
I have been rabbiting on about this for the past few weeks and I will continue to do so for the rest of the week! Click here to see what has been posted so far. Serious highlight of the festival for myself will be Efterklang on Saturday in The Savoy Theatre. Tickets priced at €25 and can be purchased from the Cork Opera House site here.
Events kicked off last night and will continue in various venues around the city until Sunday night. Check out the events schedule on The Reich Effect official tumblr site below or simply stay tuned to the blog.
To be honest, any event that involves And So I Watch You From Afar gets my thumbs up. Throw Editors, Ash, Therapy, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Ham Sandwich, Gemma Hayes, Whipping Boy not to mention great Cork acts such as Slow Motion Heroes, John Blek & The Rats, The Karman Line, Zombie Computer and many many more into the equation and you have yourself a pretty tasty bank holiday weekend party.
Tickets are currently priced at 2 Days With Camping €79 ,3 Days With Camping €99and 2 Days Non Camping €59.
Prince-lovers and/or those with money simply to burn (tickets start at €89.50!) will descend on Malahide Castle on Saturday to see Prince strut his funky stuff. Sure the cost is high but it may be the very last time fans get a chance to see the legend performing on this little island. By all accounts his shows on the European Tour so far have been nothing short of outstanding so there is no doubt that he will put on one hell of a show. Fingers crossed he turns up this time!
Kicking off tonight, Galway’s West End Street Party will feature performances from Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Elaine Mai, The Kanyu Tree and more over four nights ending on Sunday. Music is only part of the shenanigans that will go down over the long weekend with comedy (from comedians such as Matt Berry from the IT Crowd), workshops and plain ole’ carnival madness.
The “No hassle in the castle” music and arts festival firmly lays the marker down on the halfway point of the Summer with plenty of fun guaranteed over the weekend. July 29th to July 31st will see the likes of Enemies, Naughty By Nature, Adebisi Shank, Clock Opera, Feldberg, Dry The River, Jape, Le Galaxie, The Jimmy Cake and plenty more entertaining the Castlepalooza crowd. Two day tickets (three days are sold out) are priced at €74 with camping and €59 without.
Gorey in north Wexford will be invaded by festival goers on Sunday. Tickets to see Republic Of Loose, Ham Sandwich, Bipolar Empire and a host more are priced at just €25. To be honest Ham Sandwich are nearly worth that alone. Seriously good entertainers.
