Cork Midsummer Festival 2011 Programme is now Live
The 2011 programme for the Cork Midsummer Festival was unveiled in its entirety yesterday which even included a surprise visit from a Queen (note the indefinite article).
The music programme for the festival, which runs from the 11th-26th June, has been well stocked and includes appearance from Jape (June 15th), Cap Pas Cap (21st), Breathe Owl Breathe (22nd), Cathy Davey (22nd) and Quebec’s L’Orchestre d’ Hommes performing the music of the legendary Tom Waits (24-26th). As reported earlier in the month (see here) Murphy’s have jumped on board making the return of the Spiegeltent (thus becoming the Murphy’s Spiegeltent) a possibility which will play host to a number of Murphy’s Little Big Nights Out including Brian Deady and The Walls on the 18th and Mick Flannery and Katie Kim on the 23rd June.
All the above, combined with the previously confirmed performances of Penguin Café (18th) Tomorrow, In A Year (24th) and Laurie Anderson (26th), will take place over various venues such as Triskel’s Christ Church, Cork Opera House, and of course the Murphy’s Spiegeltent itself which will be located at the old Beamish Brewery. For the full line-up of music events see the official site here.
My number one interest may be the music but there is so much more to the Midsummer Festival than just aural delights. The theatre line-up will include a few days with Old Father Story (daily shows 11-15th, most suitable for kids), the now annual secret location performance which this year comes in the form of Hammergrin’s Latch, running from the 11th June all the way through to the 25th, and the world premiere of Man Of Valour which will take place in the Everyman Palace Theatre (21st-26th). The link to all theatre events is here.
From Fast Portraits and Foté Foré (dance) to Heaven Is Under Construction (Visual Arts) to A Night Out With Gay Bono (which madly enough falls under the category of circus) to various outdoor events which will include the characters of Rumpus who may appear anywhere after dark throughout the city and Tosca (which will be performed in the beautiful surroundings of FitzGerald’s Park), there is a ridiculous array of talent and entertainment on show for the majority of June.
