Good News for World Cinema/Arthouse Lovers in Cork
The world of cinema took a battering Leeside before Christmas with the announcement that The Kino was to shut its doors.
Barely a couple of months later an alternative has popped up in the form of Cork Cineclub which will run in the Half Moon Theatre (back of the Cork Opera House).
The first film is Everlasting Moments, a period drama set in Sweden at the turn of the 19th century, directed by Jan Troell (2008) and will show at 6.30pm and 9.00pm this Sunday (21st Feb).
Cork Cine Club will be run on a membership basis :
Membership 1: €100 for ten tickets; all to be pre-booked at time of purchase
Membership 2: €50 for five tickets; all to be pre-booked at time of purchase
Membership 3: €12 for a single ticket
Tickets seem a little pricey at first to be honest but when you consider the size of the venue, the fact that there will only be two shows per week and the uncertainty of how well it will actually do it makes it a little more understandable.
The first season will run until Sunday 2 May when it closes with with the acclaimed Cannes Palme d’Or 2009 winner, The White Ribbon, directed by Michael Haneke.

Very impressed with the Half Moon as a movie venue. Very impressed. Will be along as often as possible for the next 11 weeks or so and recommend anyone in Cork on a Sunday should do the same 🙂
