The Men Behind The Blues Brothers

If you have not seen the legendary Blues Brothers movie then you will neither care nor understand the point of this post.

John Belushi’s Joliet Jake and Dan Akroyd’s Elwood provided the lovable frontman while the likes of James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Cab Calloway etc provided the gold….

….yet the majority of the plotline revolves around Jake and Elwood busting a gut to get the band back together. True they were “on a mission from god” but when you look at the CV of the band in question you start to see exactly why they went to all the trouble.

The first member of this super band I will take a look at is :

Donald Duck Dunn was the lovable pipe smoking bass player as well as a member of Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Famers Booker T. & The MGs. Duck was also the house player for legendary r&b label, Stax.

Aretha’s Respect, Dock Of The Bay and I’ve Been Loving You Too Long by Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett’s In The Midnight Hour, and Hold On I’m Coming by Sam and Dave are just some of the classics on which this man provided the heartbeat and groove.

Affectionately nicknamed “Duck” by his father while watching Daffy Duck on television, Dunn was childhood friends with fellow Blues Brother Steve Cropper. Now semi-retired Donald “Duck” Dunn still takes time every so often to play a Booker T. & The MGs gig
