The majority of time it is a complete cop out or simple laziness when artists cover songs written/already performed by somebody else. The odd time someone genuinely sees a diamond and feels that they can provide the much needed sparkle that should have been applied in the first place. Sometimes it is just fun.
This first appearance of the soon to be world famous blog article Cover Up The Facts takes a look at :
All Mixed Up
The last song on The Cars eponymous debut album, All Mixed Up was written by The Cars frontman, Ric Ocasek way back in 1978.
Regular airtime on classic rock stations sums up this up tempo, late 70’s rocker.
Fast forward 18 years later. Red House Painters frontman and songwriter Mark Kozelek had quickly earned a reputation as having the ability to completely dismantle a song and rebuild using just the bare bones (lyrics/melody) of the original track.
Released on the Songs For A Blue Guitar album in 1996, this version of All Mixed Up could easily be mistaken for a completely different song with the bottom line being : No one does heartbreak better than Kozelek.
class cover. Hes gotta be one the best song interpreters of all time.
